Yesterday, I was Skyping with a friend of mine and I was telling her how I have a small list of things I’d like to do and/or am doing daily. They are:
1) Read one issue of Hellblazer.
2) Walk the neighborhood (weather permitting).
3) Write one page in current project (which is Space Vampires).
4) Write a blog entry at Calico in Transition.
So, how’s that working out for me? Hellblazer I’ve been reading since the first of the year. It just ended its run a few months ago with issue 300, so going into 2013, I knew I wanted to make it my official comic project of the year. Still need to read today’s issue (#105, to be exact).
Walking depends on the weather, of course. It also depends on my head-space and how many things are crowding my plate. But today I’ve been battling a persistent headache since three a.m., and since it was such a gorgeous day here in the South, I decided to take my walk in hopes it might loosen up some muscles. It did. But if that headache comes back, I’m bringing out the big guns (hello, prescription drugs…).
Writing: I’ve realized that my goal of finishing a chapter a week is flawed, because it’s too easy for me to say, at the start of the week, that I can write tomorrow. And then the next day arrives, and I say the same thing. And I keep doing that until it’s the weekend and I don’t have a chapter written and I’m suddenly behind. Which is why my progress reports stopped so suddenly and you only got two. π So I think I’m going back to a page a day. I’m not going to send my cheerleaders a page a day: I’ll still send them chapters as those chapters are completed, but if I’m gonna get anything done, a page a day it’s gotta be. Have I written yet today? Nope. That’s what I’m doing after I post this entry!
Which brings me back to writing a daily blog entry. I know that’s a tall order, and honestly, there’s a reason it’s at the bottom of the list. But I would like to post more often than I have been, even if the topic is something as sporadic as today’s list. So if you’re following this blog in any form or fashion, feel free to feed me topics, because I’m gonna need them if I end up posting a daily blog entry! And obviously, since you’re reading this, Monday’s entry requirement has been satisfied.
Also, I made Andes Mint Cookies. Is there such a thing as a cookie that’s too big? No? I didn’t think so….
In all seriousness, I’m not oblivious to the horrible tragedy that’s rocked Boston and therefore the nation. My heart goes out to everyone and anyone who’s been affected. It’s not something I feel really comfortable writing about in any form or fashion, because things like this make me feel impotent. There’s nothing I can do or say that sheds light on anything at all, so I tend to stay silent. But that doesn’t mean I don’t care.
In happier news, today’s tax deadline madness is OVER. No, I’m not a tax person, but my job does mean I deal more with peoples’ panic than pretty much every other job ever (except accountants and CPAs). And considering that the IRS deadline was one of my main headache triggers? Yeah, I’m glad it’s over….
One page a day looks like an attainable and not too daunting goal.
And it’s also inspiring… I might try it myself π
(if, and it’s a big *if*, my laziness does not get in the way!)

The page-a-day rule: one page, double-spaced. That’s it! It helps, too, if you don’t allow yourself to do something you WANT to do until you get it done, so the thing you really want to do becomes a reward. π
