The Whole World Is Watching

So it’s been a long, entertainment-filled day, and I’m rather brain-dead, which is unfortunate, as I still have a page to hammer out. And since muses wait for no man (or woman), and it’s nearing midnight, I’m going to share a song in lieu of a more substantial entry.

The song: Within Temptation’s “Whole World is Watching” featuring Dave Pirner. It’s on my playlist for Codename: Magic Twins, and when it started playing Friday night (I always put the playlist on shuffle), I was struck by how perfectly these lyrics fit my hero’s and heroine’s journeys. So perfectly that I suspect I may be a wee bit influenced by the number of times I’ve  listened to this song on repeat, over and over and over.

I’m sharing the lyrics first, because I’ve never watched the video until tonight and I think the lyrics of the song are more important than the video’s interpretation of them (I always have that trouble with music videos: I’ll hear a song, see a story clearly in my head, and find the video just does not match up with what I take away from the song at all). I’m going to put everything behind a cut too, so that this post doesn’t take up so much space, so behind the cut you’ll find 1) the lyrics, 2) the music video so you can hear the song (if you don’t want to watch the video, that’s cool), and 3) my daily stats.

“Whole World Is Watching”

You live your life.
You go day by day
like nothing can go wrong.
Those colors are made,
they’re changing the game.
You learn to play it hard.

And I know you wish for more,
and I know you try.
And I hope you realize,
you know the time is right.

The whole world is watching when you rise.
The whole world is beating for you right now.
Your whole life is flashing before your eyes.
It’s all in this moment that changes all.

What are you waiting for?
What are you fighting for?
Cause time’s always slipping away.
The whole world is watching.
Yeah, the whole world is watching.
You’re in your right.

You build your walls
then break them away
cause that is what it takes.
You saved yourself.
You found who you are,
and that never goes away.

Your sacrifice comes to your mind,
but nothing is wasted.
You made it now.
You rise again, reaching out.
He stands as he’s taking his claim to prize.

The whole world is watching.
Yeah, the whole world is watching.
You’re in your right.

What are you waiting for?
What are you fighting for?
Cause time’s always slipping away.
The whole world is watching.
Yeah, the whole world is watching.
You’re in your right.

I think this video might be somewhat moving, if I didn’t already have my own story in my head. 🙂

Moving along. I spent some driving time today contemplating the world and the rules I’ve set up, coming up with potential conflict/solutions. I realized today it’s a more fun world to explore that I’d originally given myself credit for. That’s a good thing.

Currently Reading: Jeff VanderMeer’s Acceptance

Next up: Chili lunch at my grandmother’s, to be followed by homemade LEMON PIE. The calories in the thing are ridiculous, but it’s so delicious, I’m pretty sure the calories won’t count. We’ve started watching Penny Dreadful, so I’m excited to continue that, and of course, tomorrow night is Galavant. Oh, what a silly but fun musical….

Today’s headline obviously brought to you from Within Temptation’s album, Hydra. You can hear “The Whole World is Watching” by clicking the video above.

    1. No, it is not. I would not spoil pie with meringue! Doesn’t everyone take that part off anyway?

My mother-in-law found this recipe and made it for Christmas and I shamelessly stole it. 🙂

      http://myfridgefood.com/recipes/dessert/no-bake-lemon-pie/

EDIT #1: I should note: we did not squeeze our own lemons for juice. We bought the juice as is. And I used a graham cracker pie crust. Also, now that I’m looking at this (because my mother-in-law wrote the recipe down for me), we used two cans of the condensed milk, not the one shown in the picture. This recipe shown in the link sounds like it would be super-lemony, and maybe I’ll try that, but then again, on the off-chance my MIL wrote the recipe down wrong (she had also made a caramel pie that required two cans of condensed milk), I’ll let you know, because I should be able to taste the difference.

EDIT #2: I called my mother-in-law in a paranoid panic and she said she definitely used two cans; to use the recipe above (with one can) and the same amount of juice would be TOO lemony and it wouldn’t fill up the pie crust. What I had at Christmas was very lovely, just the right amount of lemon, so I’m going to trust her recipe, which is this:

      1 graham cracker pie crust
2 cans condensed milk (we used Eagle Brand, 14 oz each)
3/4 cup of lemon juice (store bought)

Using a whisk, whip until smooth, pour into pie crust, cover and store overnight in fridge. Top serving with whipped cream or cool whip.

And that’s it! Even I can make it! 🙂 The calories are ridiculous (thank you, condensed milk!) but it’s so good I don’t think the calories should count.
